In a keynote talk, historian and documentary filmmaker Simon Scharma addressed the “de-Judification” of today’s education about the Holocaust. There is a “relentless fascination with the perpetrators as opposed to remembering” the Jews. This undermines the response to Jew-hatred today, which “has become toxic after Oct. 7.” He has produced a new documentary, “Simon Scharma: The Road to Auschwitz,” and says that education should start from the more than 1,000 years of antisemitism....

[….]At issue here is not Khalil’s pro-Hamas politics — abhorrent to millions — but the U.S. government’s use of the infamous Immigration and Nationality Act, adopted in 1952, to target communists and other opponents of government policies based on their political views. The thought-control statute allows the expulsion of anyone the government claims “would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences” for Washington.

Adopted during the McCarthyite witch hunt, the law was used to deport immigrants on the basis of their membership, past membership or association with the Communist Party or any organization deemed “totalitarian” by the U.S. rulers.

It’s part of the arsenal of witch-hunt statutes the capitalist class can use to attack working people at home and to advance their predatory military interventions abroad. It goes side by side with the use of the FBI and other political police agencies, as well as the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which criminalizes people whose political views align with governments Washington opposes. Last year leaders of the African People’s Socialist Party were framed up as “foreign agents.”

New documents show Hamas, Tehran aimed to destroy Israel – The Militant

Documents discovered by the Israel Defense Forces in Gaza that were recently made public confirm that Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, pogrom had the explicit aim of destroying Israel. They record exchanges between Hamas, Hezbollah and the reactionary regime in Tehran about how to do this going back years, underscoring that what is at stake in Israel’s war to dismantle Hamas and to eliminate Tehran’s ability to acquire nuclear weapons is to prevent another Holocaust.

An analysis of the documents was published March 13 by Uri Rosset, a researcher at Sapir College in Israel, near the Gaza border. “The idea that the very existence of the State of Israel (‘the Zionist entity’) is illegal and immoral has been ingrained in Hamas’ worldview since its founding,” Rosset wrote, but “the issue of ‘the destruction of Israel’ remained a vision for the future.”

‘Fight for women’s equality is part of battle on world scale to settle which class will rule’ – The Militant

‘Fight for women’s equality is part of battle on world scale to settle which class will rule’ – The Militant

[….] the unimaginable is not yet the inevitable.

That depends on which class rules. The international working class is today far larger and potentially more powerful than in the years that preceded the two interimperialist slaughters of the 20th century. And the large increase in the percentage of women in the workforce worldwide is one of the reasons for this.

What’s missing is growing working-class consciousness, confidence and revolutionary leadership. Communist leadership that can — and will — develop only in the course of class battles.

The kind of leadership provided by V.I. Lenin and the Bolshevik Party he forged in the czarist empire. Leadership of the kind exemplified by Fidel Castro and the cadres of the July 26 Movement and Rebel Army in Cuba, who led the way to Cuba’s socialist revolution.

Leadership of the exploited producers of all skin colors and nationalities the world over, like that demonstrated by Malcolm X, a leadership with moral courage and integrity. And, I will add, of the Socialist Workers Party leadership who shared that course.

Those kinds of leadership, too, can only be forged — and will continue to be forged — in the heat of class battles.
