Southern Worker now available on line

13 June 2012:: Added to the USA History Publications Page is the Southern Worker. The Southern Worker was the sometimes weekly newspaper clandestinely published by the Communist Party USA in Chattanooga, Tenn. and Birmingham, Ala. from 1930-37. Because it's origin was during the so-called "Third Period" that the Communist International designated during the early years of the world Depression, the Southern Worker became a strong advocate of the "Black Belt Theory" advocating for an independent Black nation in the U.S. South. The Southern Worker was the only socialist journal distributed on a regular basis in the Jim Crow segregated South during this period.
