Background

On Tuesday March 10th, 2009 Slavoj Žižek presented the following talk at the Howard Assembly Room, in Leeds, United Kingdom: "Brunhilde's Act, or, why was it so difficult for Wagner to find a proper ending for his Twilight of the Gods?" The talk was followed by a question and answer session chaired by Prof. Derek B. Scott, Professor of Critical Musicology at the University of Leeds.

This event was organised by Dominic Gray on behalf of Opera North with the co-operation of the University of Leeds and the IJŽS General Editor Paul Taylor who acted as the liaison person for Slavoj Žižek. A detailed paper by Slavoj Žižek upon which this public talk was based, "Brunhilde’s Act," is also provided on the main contents page of this Issue.
